I had the opportunity to stay here in Jan 2024. To keep it simple…The Nicholson Chalet was fantastic. Very close transit to the Collins lift (where the day begins) and close enough to ski home. Also a short walk to the nostalgic Peruvian Lodge. Very cool. This chalet is extremely comfortable and perfect for a large family gathering or work related group trip. All the rooms have a private bathroom. The ski/mud room accommodates everyone. The boot drier is an absolute plus. And, to end the day in the jacuzzi couldn’t be better! Highly recommended.

Exceptional Retreat! Our recent stay the the Nicholson Chalet was nothing short of spectacular. Snow and winter is scarce this year in Minnesota, but that is not the case at Alta. The skiing was fantastic. From the moment we arrived at the Nicholson Chalet, we were captivated by the lodge's charming ambiance, impeccable service and unbeatable proximity to the slopes. The convenience of the Chalet's location truly sets it apart. With easy access to the Atla by foot or via the shuttle service, getting to and from the mountain was fast and easy. We spent less time commuting and more time enjoying the slopes or the company of our group. The house manager, was on duty and ready to assist and was an added layer of comfort, making us feel welcomed and secure throughout our stay. The Chalet's commitment to providing a quiet and tranquil space was evident throughout our stay. Despite its proximity to the action, we were able to enjoy a peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere. The well appointed lodge provides an awesome community space to share meals, play games and have laughs without disturbing those who have retired to their rooms for quiet time. The thoughtfully designed interiors and comfortable furnishings created haven where we could recharge for another day of exhilarating skiing. In conclusion, the Nicholson Chalet exceeded our expectations in every way imaginable. With its unbeatable lcoation, attentive house manager, short walk/convenient shuttle to the slopes or Alta's bars and restaurants it stands as the epitome of wonderland retreat. I almost forgot to mention the luxurious hot tub that was ready to go when we got home. I cannot recommend this lodge enough for those seeking a memorable and enchanting vacation. We are counting the days until we can return to this gem.

Amazing experience staying here with a large group for a 'father-son' long weekend. The common areas are really cozy, with lots of wood and nice fireplaces. Large and well equipped kitchen. Very nice rooms with great views and super comfortable beds. The heated floors in the bathrooms are a nice touch. Extremely close to the lifts for the beginning of the day, and we were able to ski back taking the Jackrabbit traverse. The sunset views from the hottub terrace are unbeatable. We have only been here for skiing but we would like to try it in the summer. We can't wait to be back!

I just spent a weekend at the Nicholson Chalet. I cannot imagine a better ski house. Plenty of room for friends and family, and all the amenities you could ever want. Collins lift is a short walk, with all that Alta has to offer. After skiing, the chefs kitchen (2 ovens, 2 refrigerators and 2 dishwashers!) enabled large group dinners that allowed conversation to flow well into the evening. Plenty of space for a large group to all be together, as well as lots of other rooms to curl up with a good book or enjoy a smaller group vibe.

Our extended family put Chalet Day Johns to the test. We had 23 people, ranging in age from 2 to 62, and cooked our own meals. Even with every bed occupied, the house felt comfortable and spacious. En suite bathroom in each bedroom is a huge plus. The pro kitchen makes it easy to crank out meals for a crowd. We had plenty of room to store our supplies in the two refrigerators (one in bar area). We liked the layout of the public areas, as we could all be together in the dining room, or split up into more manageable groups in the two living areas. The boot room kept our gear organized and dry. The shuttle service to the lifts is prompt and friendly, but the walk is very manageable, too. Communication with Alta Chalets and with the caretaker was excellent. Snow removal was excellent, but be sure your vehicle can handle the snow. All-in-all it was a great experience, and we would stay here again in a heartbeat. There really is nowhere else for a big group to go in Little Cottonwood, unless you are going to split up in hotel rooms or condos. The only reason I am deducting a star is because the ambiance and furnishings are not updated or stylish... but we don't come to Alta to be stylish, do we? CDJ gave us authenticity, comfort, and easy access to the greatest snow on earth.

My family and spent the last week of December in Alta at the Chalet Day Johns in what was the best family vacation ever. We were 17 in number ranging from 8 adults, 5 teenagers and 4 between 10 and 12. The Chalet handled our crowd beautifully. The large two story dinning room with two tables for 12 was especially perfect. The rooms were large and accommodating, the boot room with heated driers was what we needed in a cold week as was the indoor hot tub. An excellent stay! (they could change the name to make it easier to remember)

We rented the Chalet Day Johns for a guys trip over closing weekend at Alta. The house's location is terrific, just a short walk (less than 1/4 mile) from the Wildcat base at Alta, or an even shorter drive. The walk may not always be possible depending on snow conditions, but it is about as close to the mountain as you could hope for without being ski on. The house itself is very nice and incredibly spacious. Each bedroom is quite large, and has multiple options for bedding configurations depending on the needs of your group. The hot tub was great after a day of skiing, and the kitchen and dining setup work well for a larger group. The only negative about Chalet Day Johns is that the furniture and finishings are quite dated. While everything was well maintained and in good working order, it is showing its age. That being said, I believe the home has a new owner and there may be some updates and improvements contemplated. Not sure what they have in mind, but with some updates, CDJ would be an easy 5 stars. We would definitely rent this home again.
