Recent reviews for the MainStay Suites Salt Lake City Fort Union overwhelmingly highlight significant customer service issues, primarily stemming from rude and unhelpful front desk staff. Multiple guests reported dismissive behavior, threats of refusal of service, and a general lack of professionalism. Several reviews also detail cleanliness problems, including infestations of cockroaches, stained bedding, and dirty facilities, alongside concerns about noise and maintenance issues. Despite some positive comments regarding location and basic amenities, the persistent negative feedback strongly suggests considerable problems with the hotel’s operational standards.
Terrible experience. After driving 18 hours for a soccer tournament, the last thing we expected was rude customer service. The front desk employee, Gale, was disrespectful from the moment we walked in. She was rude to another customer on the phone claiming she was “too busy,” even though the lobby was almost empty. When we gave our IDs and reservation name, she immediately said the reservation wasn’t there and acted like she didn’t care to help. My brother mentioned she didn’t have to be rude, and she responded by threatening to refuse service. We had already paid for the room. I politely asked if we could wait a few minutes since third-party bookings sometimes take time to update, but she continued with the same bad attitude. When asking about a refund, she was dismissive and unhelpful. Gale has some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you want professionalism and respect after a long trip, stay somewhere else.
Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. After driving 18 hours for a soccer tournament, the last thing my fiancé, brother, and I expected was to be treated with such disrespect and horrible customer service. The front desk employee named Gale was extremely rude the moment we walked in. Before even helping us, she was already being disrespectful to another customer over the phone, telling them she was “too busy” to help them, even though there were only one other couple in the lobby besides us. Her attitude was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. When it was finally our turn, we handed over our IDs and my fiancé gave his name for the reservation. Gale immediately said the reservation “wasn’t there” and claimed there was nothing she could do. Instead of trying to help or even calmly explain the situation, she became rude and dismissive. My brother simply commented that she did not have to be so rude, and her response was, “If you think I’m being rude, I’ll refuse service.” Mind you, we had already paid for the reservation. I calmly tried to ask if we could wait 15 minutes to see if the reservation would appear since third-party bookings can sometimes take time to process. Instead of showing understanding, she continued with the same nasty attitude. When I asked about the deposit and refund process, she snapped back saying she didn’t “need to explain it” to me and that my fiancé would need to contact the third-party company himself. At that point, it was obvious she had no interest in helping us at all. Gale has some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Turning away paying customers and speaking to people with such disrespect is exactly why businesses lose customers and gain terrible reputations. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. If you are traveling from far away and expecting decent hospitality, avoid this place completely. Employees like Gale should not be working in customer service, especially in hospitality where people are already exhausted from traveling and simply need assistance and professionalism.
Used heroin. That's what you might find (as I did) in the bedside drawer when we stayed (see video). We were meant to stay 2 nights, but between that discovery and being kept awake most of the night by extremely loud neighbors, there was no way we were staying another. We also found the previous tenant's used clothes in the drawer as you will see in the video. The room was dirty when we arrived, crumbs all over the bed side table, stains on the bedding and a general foul smell in the room, although that could have been the used heroin I guess? When we checked in (around 8pm Friday night) it took a good 15 minutes before the front desk person came to check us in. There was a phone in the lobby, we tried it 3 times. In her defense, she arrived with a bucket and mop and had been busy cleaning a mess caused by another guest (which I presume was probably vomit). We asked for a refund, after speaking to the manager over the phone I was told someone would get back to me. No one ever did. If you do plan to stay here, know what you're getting yourself into. The hallways had used rubbish and food on the floor. Only wish we had read the reviews prior to staying. Hopefully this may serve as a warning to anyone thinking of staying here - my recommendation, don't!
If I could give them -10 stars, I would…. Absolutely horrible experience with the front desk receptionist on May 1st, 2026 (I think her name was Lisa) The lady was extremely rude to the guests trying to check in right before us, downgraded the room they booked and did the same to us. We booked a 2 Queen beds room to accommodate our family of 4 a month ago, she rudely refused to give us the room we booked, said we’d have to book a separate room for extra charge and if we were not happy with that, we needed to leave the premises, she then proceeded to call the police as well because 2 guests were extremely unhappy with her and her unprofessional approach. We spent an hour on the phone with Expedia and all of a sudden, the room was available according to the hotel manager. We cancelled the reservation and booked another hotel. I rarely leave reviews, but this time absolutely have to warn potential guests. Horrible customer service and rudeness!
I stayed here for 3 years! Their management is amazing especially Alicia and Cameron! Misha is such a great employee and truly knows how treat guests with hospitality! They have amazing monthly and weekly rates! Even there daily rates are usually cheaper than most of the cheapest hotels and it’s way better quality! Thick towels, kitchens have a full size fridge, dishwasher, microwave and stovetop! There sweets are the price of most regular hotel rooms and they are so nice. They have a separate bedroom with the door that has a closet in it and they have a living room and a full kitchen in their suites. I love staying here!!!
Our stay was amazing. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Cameron and all of the staff are the best and so well mannered. Even housekeeping was great!! By far my best stay at aa motel. Stayed for 2 months and never had an incident. Will definitely stay again..
Warning! My friend stayed at this hotel and had a horrible experience on Friday 2/14! Despite having a "do not disturb" sign on her door, the maid entered their room. When she came back to the room she noticed that her personal bag had been moved and some food had been taken. Fortunately the staff at the front desk resolved the situation quickly. But I would feel very uncomfortable staying there if staff is entering the room and touching people's belongings.
They got me off the street when no other hotel would check me in with my expired DL and I won't forget that, they later tightened up their valid State ID policy like everyone else don't know why didn't keep the dirt bags out of the place! But all in all my stay was ok and the staff did a great job , they're a pretty good bunch. I stayed there for four months and only new them a little but I won't forget you people or what you did for me, I would have stayed longer but I couldn't afford it anymore and couldn't take the noisy neighbor's either . See y'all on the flip side ? Kevin AKA "Sonny"
Stayed in room 220 on the second floor for a single night only thank God. Look I dont ask for perfection its a cheap hotel stay and I understand that but when the blankets and sheets appear stained, the floors are unclean and slick creating a slipping hazard walking around the kitchenette, and there are roaches present in the room and in the bathroom there is a huge problem. I have never felt so grossed out staying in a hotel room I feel I would have been better off in a motel 6 which is really sad. Overall my worst hotel experience to date.
Older rough hotel. Stayed from 10/20/2025 to 10/31/2025. It's ok for a temporary place to rest your head. Poor water pressure on the shower and bathtub spouts. Relatively clean rooms. A roach did crawl across the bathroom counter one day though. Lots of residential drug addicts smoking or cooking hard drugs and the hotel reeks of it. Had to wash a many of my things to get rid of the smell. 2 fire alarm soundings in 2 days which was not pleasant and resulted in lost sleep. First being Friday 10/24/2025 at about 11:55PM and the second being Sunday 10/26/2025 at about 4:30PM. And no appearance from the fire department either time. No one takes the alarm seriously unfortunately. Many questionable people staying at the hotel but they tend to keep to themselves. Lots of nearby amenities. I've stayed in better and I've stayed in worse
